Swapna M. Samuel’s passion for family law began in law school, where she was inspired to pursue a career that made an immediate and personal impact on clients that altered their lives for the better.

Fresh out of law school, Swapna worked with legal aid clients, domestic violence shelters, and student clinics to provide legal counsel and representation to persons in crisis, navigating unsafe relationships and environments. This experience gave her an extensive insight into the invisible power dynamics behind closed doors and how they are at best minimized or worse, wholly overlooked in the legal process.

Over the years, Swapna expanded her work beyond the courtroom. She volunteered with non-profits and collaborated with therapists, counsellors and religious leaders to help spouses separate in ways that protected their children and preserved the dignity of the family unit as much as possible.

These experiences even today, fifteen years into the practice of law, continue to shape how Swapna approaches people – with an idea their wholeness, connectedness to other persons and environments and with a keen sensitivity to the legal realities that clients must navigate.
